J.T. (Joanne)
DeShong began her career as a sign painter, following in her father's footsteps. She moved to fine art, her true-love in
the late '80's and has polished her style by studying with a number of well-known artists such as Ann Templeton, Bob Rohm,
Robert Burridge, Bobbie Kilpatrick, Charles Sovek, Vie Dunn-Harr, and Vickie McMurry, to name a few.
"I want
my paintings to make people smile," she says. I intend their mood to be playful, lighthearted, even whimsical. I like
to exaggerate the natural world by enhancing its color whenever I can.
J.T. works in oils or acrylics, depending
on which suits her mood at the time. Vivid, frequently subjective colors dominate her work. Flowers, animals and skies
are her favorite subjects of the moment. Her colorful pet portraits are very popular, and most of them are painted as commissioned
work.
Recently transplanted from Austin Texas, her home and studio are now located in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She
paints every day when she's not traveling. Upcoming shows are MOREcolor, hosted by OkEq at the Dennis Neill Equality Center in Tulsa, May 27
